Financial institutions, private lenders and companies seeking legal guidance that meet their bank financing needs turn to Svetlana Samochkine, a partner in the Financial Services Group of Fasken’s Montréal office. Her practice spans both sides of the table, representing banks and other institutional lenders, as well as companies of all sizes seeking debt financing.
Account managers and in-house legal teams at financial institutions entrust her with corporate financing, acquisition financing and project financing matters. She is well versed in all types of loan structures: secured, unsecured, senior, subordinated and mezzanine loans, cash-flow lending, leveraged buy-out, asset-based lending, and capital call loans. Her in-depth knowledge of credit requirements and security interest mechanisms allows her to move multi-party transactions forward efficiently.
Svetlana also supports companies undertaking acquisitions or growth initiatives, often teaming up with Fasken’s Corporate/Commercial Group. She negotiates credit and intercreditor agreements, including for combined debt and equity investments, and advises on private equity financing matters.

She assists with security agreements, provides legal opinions and helps her clients navigate the complexities of Québec law, often as part of cross-border transactions.
Svetlana regularly advises food processing companies, cooperatives and other supply chain organizations on a broad range of agribusiness financing matters. She also advises businesses from the technology, construction and food service industries on their financing needs and strategic transactions.
A member of the Board of Directors of the Association des Femmes en Finances du Québec (AFFQ) since 2024, Svetlana serves as Corporate Secretary and sits on the Governance Committee.
