Overview

Ally Bharmal is a corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, corporate/commercial and board governance Partner based in the Vancouver office.  Ally works with clients across the business life-cycle; from start-up and incorporation matters, seed and growth stage financing, to complex M&A, strategic investment, venture capital and private equity transactions.

Ally has extensive experience in the technology industry, and the food, beverage and agribusiness industry, and co-leads the firm’s national food and beverage group. He is actively involved in the sectors in which he practices, and understands the industries in which clients operate. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ally completed his Computing Science degree and worked for various technology companies, including TELUS.

Ally has advised his clients on many of Canada’s leading transactions in the technology and food and beverage industries, and has won awards for his M&A work. Representative transactions include Galvanize’s $1 billion sale to Diligent, SmartSweets’ majority exit to TPG Growth (ACG 2020 deal of the year) and Daiya Foods’ $405 million sale to Otsuka (ACG 2017 deal of the year).

He has notable experience in Board governance matters, and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. On the corporate side, he currently serves as Corporate Secretary for Unbounce Marketing Solutions and Daiya Foods, and as a Board Advisor for DeeBee’s Organics. On the non-profit side, he currently serves as a Director of the Canadian Food Innovation Network and TiE Vancouver. Ally’s past Board roles include several years with the Ismaili Councils for British Columbia and Canada, the BC Food and Beverage Association, Kids Up Front Vancouver and the BC Children’s Hospital Night of Miracles Cabinet.
