The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario oversees compliance with Ontario’s provincial and municipal public sector privacy laws, and its health sector privacy law. Assistant Commissioner Goodis will provide a regulator's perspective on the most frequent types of privacy breaches that his office is involved in. Drawing from those breaches, he will discuss how to prevent them, and how to best respond to them.
2019 has proven to be a banner year for discussions around data processing arrangements and cross-border transfers of personal information. In the wake of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s recent consultation on consent and processing arrangements, many organizations are revisiting how and where they process personal information. Daniel Fabiano and Christopher Ferguson will speak to:
- the do’s and don’ts of cross-border transfers of personal information – what is permitted under privacy laws and how to manage risk, and
- contractual safeguards for data processing arrangements in light of recent regulator guidance and industry trends
