Overview

Marie‑Gabrielle Bélanger advises employers under provincial and federal jurisdiction on all aspects of the employment relationship, from developing prevention strategies to managing sensitive situations. Recognized for her practical, strategic and solutions-oriented approach, she supports clients in the day-to-day management of their human resources and labour relations. She represents clients before administrative and civil courts in matters involving employment standards, labour relations, collective agreement interpretation, dismissal, absenteeism, management rights, human rights and harassment.

Given the extensive knowledge she has acquired in managing complaints involving psychological harassment, sexual harassment and workplace violence, Marie-Gabrielle is the partner who oversees Fasken’s investigation team. She provides strategic support to employers in handling complaints or reports of misconduct and in complex cases requiring thoroughness, impartiality and tact. She also ensures that complaints are addressed according to best practices and that investigations conducted by her team members are carried out professionally and rigorously.

In her role as an impartial and independent investigator in complex matters, she also conducts thorough investigations tailored to the circumstances of each organization. Marie-Gabrielle’s approach emphasizes fairness, confidentiality and attentive listening. She also supports her clients’ internal teams in receiving and conducting preliminary assessments of complaints, and guides them through every stage of the process, including the implementation of appropriate interim measures.

She also advises organizations on updating, implementing, and improving complaint handling policies and processes.

As an experienced trainer, Marie-Gabrielle equips employees, managers, management committees and boards of directors with tools they need to prevent workplace harassment and violence, promote civility, receive complaints and apply best investigation practices. She also provides training and speaks at conferences on various aspects of the employment relationship and other key workplace topics.
