National Post quotes Ottawa/Toronto lawyer Clifford Sosnow in an article on export ban on military equipment to Russia.
Clifford Sosnow, co-chair of the international trade and investment group at Fasken law firm, said that the drones would likely have been export-controlled, given the sophisticated technology contained in them. They would not have to be designed for military use to require an export permit since they contain sensitive technology and/or software that contains strong encryption, he said. “Likely the seized drones would fit the bill. If the drones were U.S.-made, the U.S. authorities will be concerned about unauthorized shipments.”
