Overview

“Sleeping behind the wheel of a Tesla: the RCMP has had enough,” by Dominique Demers, Radio-Canada

Montréal associate Rémi Slama discusses the road safety regulations applicable to autonomous vehicles in an interview broadcast on Radio-Canada (in French only).

He examines the various levels of vehicle autonomy, federal and provincial regulations, and the obligations imposed on drivers.

He particularly emphasizes the obligation for drivers of autonomous vehicles to remain capable, at all times, of taking back control of the vehicle when circumstances require it.

“Drivers must remain in control of their vehicle […]. They should avoid being distracted or using their phone, even if they have the impression that everything is being managed by the vehicle. They must continue to supervise it at all times,” said Rémi Slama.

His comments were broadcast on the program Panorama, as well as in news bulletins across the country.
