Sébastien Richemont is a partner within the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group in Montreal. Specializing in commercial litigation, he advises and represents clients in arbitration, class actions, manufacturer’s and professional liability, contractual and construction litigations, disputes between shareholders and securities matters.
With more than 20 years of experience, Sébastien has leading-edge knowledge that allows him to understand the legal issues that clients may face while having practical know-how to support them at each step of the dispute settlement process. He prioritizes a pragmatic approach based on effectiveness, value creation and predictability.
A seasoned and passionate litigator, Sébastien has led several major assignments during his career. He is credited with obtaining several favourable judgments in various cases involving several million dollars in a variety of fields such as energy, new technologies, class actions, manufacturer’s liability, securities, construction and contractual disputes. He has represented several creditors in the cross-Canada restructuring of the non-bank asset-backed commercial paper market (ABCP) where his clients had more than one billion dollars at stake. He also obtained the cancellation of a call for tenders allowing his clients to obtain a construction contract worth $70 million.
In addition to his professional practice, Sébastien is the lead trainer and co-organizer of the professional training program sponsored by the Université du Québec à Montréal entitled “Pleading Techniques”, a 15-hour training seminar for lawyers. Prior to joining Fasken, Sébastien practised for 21 years in a boutique firm that specialized in litigation, arbitration and insolvency.
