Vlad is a partner in the commercial litigation group in Fasken’s Vancouver office. His practice focuses on class action, where he secured one of the only contested decertification rulings in Canada, and business litigation. His class action work includes securities law, competition law, pharmaceuticals, and product liability. His business litigation work involves complex contract disputes, takeover bids, shareholder disputes, and insolvency litigation. In addition, Vlad has experience advising companies and their directors and officers in response to allegations of corporate misconduct, including with internal or regulatory investigations.
Vlad has been recognized by his peers as a “One to Watch” in both Commercial Litigation and Class Action Litigation and has served as lead counsel in a complex common issues class action trial, a distinction achieved by only a select group of lawyers.
Vlad’s practice has national breadth. He has appeared before courts and tribunals across Canada including: the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and its Commercial List, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench and Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Vlad has broad experience on high-stakes motions, interventions, trials, and appeals.
Prior to joining Fasken, Vlad was a partner in the class action group at a leading plaintiffs’ side law firm. Previously, Vlad worked for a national law firm in class action defence and commercial litigation, and a premier litigation boutique. His experience acting for both plaintiffs and defendants in class action litigation gives him a unique perspective and makes him well-suited to help clients manage and defend contentious, high-profile, and stressful class action lawsuits.
Vlad earned a J.D. with honours from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. After graduating from law school, Vlad clerked for the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He also worked for the Enforcement Branch of the Ontario Securities Commission. During law school, he was the recipient of several notable academic and mooting awards, including the American College of Trial Lawyers’ Dickson Medal for excellence in oral advocacy at the Gale Cup Moot Competition.
In his free time, Vlad enjoys relaxing with a good book, watching and critiquing films, peacefully skiing, and spending quality time with his wife and daughter.
