David Ziegler has a broad civil litigation and arbitration practice, with a focus on complex commercial and financial disputes, cross-border disputes, product liability, international arbitration, and class actions. David represents clients across a wide range of industries, including mining, rail, professional services, insurance, banking and finance, manufacturing, and construction.
David has extensive experience acting for both Canadian and U.S. companies involved in cross-border disputes resulting in litigation in Canada and regularly advises clients on the enforcement and recognition of foreign judgments in Canada.
David also advises clients on all facets of e-Discovery, including document preservation, the preparation and circulation of litigation holds, document collection, and the use of modern data processing tools. David is well-versed in managing large and complex e-Discovery projects and is leading an initiative to ensure that Fasken maintains and provides a state of the art e-Discovery process for its clients.
David is actively engaged in pro bono work. He oversees a number of matters in connection with the TAS-PBO Consumer Protection Initiative, a recent initiative launched by The Advocates’ Society and Pro Bono Ontario to help low-income consumers facing the effects of predatory door-to-door sales. He also formerly regularly volunteered as a Duty Counsel at the Toronto Small Claims Court, providing assistance to unrepresented litigants as part of the Pro Bono Law Ontario Duty Counsel Project.
Prior to joining the firm, David practiced in New York as an associate with a leading international law firm. While there, David gained experience in securities litigation and general commercial disputes, as well as in the representation of individuals in NY state and U.S. federal government investigations.
