Leana Engelbrecht is a Partner in the Competition Team in Fasken’s Johannesburg office, where she serves as the Africa Regional Leader for the Competition, Marketing and Foreign Investment Practice Group. She has over 13 years of experience as a specialist competition and regulatory lawyer and is recognised as an expert in her fields of expertise by numerous rating publications.

As a seasoned competition lawyer, she advises notable clients across a broad range of sectors, including private equity, financial institutions, e-commerce, online platforms, renewable energy, infrastructure, oil and gas, insurance broking, gambling and gaming, fast-moving consumer goods, airlines, food services, construction, and private healthcare.

Leana advises on all aspects of competition law and regulation in South Africa and across the African continent, with a specific focus on the convergence between competition, regulation, and policy. Her practice covers cartel defenses and leniency, abuses of dominance, compliance advice, dawn raids, market inquiries, competition litigation, and local and multi-jurisdictional merger control.

She is also an experienced regulatory lawyer, providing advice on consumer protection, gaming and gambling, franchising, and administrative law. Leana frequently advises clients on complex legal and operational strategies to mitigate regulatory and competition law risks.
