2025 has been another dizzying year for unionized and non-unionized employers in the federal sector. In this year’s federal sector update, we will be joined by the new President and CEO of Federally Regulated Employers – Transportation and Communications (FETCO), Daniel Safayeni, to discuss the key legislative, caselaw and policy developments impacting federally regulated employers, including:
- Ministerial referrals under section 107 of the Canada Labour Code impacting large labour disputes
- The new ban on replacement workers and obligations with respect to maintenance of activities
- Evolving caselaw under the unjust dismissal provisions of the Canada Labour Code, including jurisdictional considerations with the Canadian Human Rights Commission
- Consultations regarding new “equal pay” provisions prohibiting different wage rates based on employment status
- A revised standard on Accessible Employment
- Pay equity maintenance obligations
